Treating toddler bed wetting problems with ease

Bed wetting is very common among toddlers up to four years as they cannot yet control their bladders. However, there are instances where, for some children, bed wetting continues up to the ages of five or even ten. Statistics speak that twenty percent of children of five years of age and five percent of children of ten years of age still continue to wet the bed at night. This may be due to several reasons such as delayed growth, having a small bladder, deep sleep and emotional or social factors such as stress.

Support for the toddler

Bed wetting is a stressful occurrence for most children and parents equally. Especially older children tend to get upset by it. It is important as parents to supportive of the child and not to make them feel bad about it. Parents should talk to the child comfortingly and encouragingly. It is advisable to consult a doctor in order to find what is causing the bed wetting. For emotional or social causes, consulting a child psychologist might be necessary.

Treatment from home

Fortunately, there are treatments available to cure bed wetting in toddlers, in the simple form of bed wetting alarms and pads. The Ramsey bed wetting alarms, for example, are widely prescribed by health care professionals as a suitable treatment for bed wetting.

How the bed wetting alarm works

The alarm consists of a soft rubber mat which is placed on the bed and connected to a bedside alarm unit. The mat which is urine sensitive triggers the alarm when the child wets, causing the alarm to ring. Thus the child wakes up and is able to attend the toilet. When the alarm rings it also automatically switches on a light so that the child is able to see where the alarm is and switch it off on the way to the toilet. And the alarm also comes with an inbuilt counter that records how long it takes the child to switch it off.

Quick results

With the bed wetting treatment alarm and pad, children are found to stop bed wetting within the space of weeks. Extensive research is there to prove these positive results. This is very good for the wellbeing of the children as it could help to make their sleep more peaceful and relaxing.  It will also make sure that they wake up without having to face the guilt of bed wetting.
